Broken Signs : An Upcoming Single Review
(11/07/07)
ATO favourites "Sound Sanctuary" are on the verge of releasing their potentially biggest single, "Broken Signs". KJS and Banxy review it here.
You may remember our interview with Sound Sanctuary - a band for whom we predicted great things. Well Sound Sanctuary are soon to be releasing the very single which drew our attention to them in the first place. That single is "Broken Signs" and KJS and Banxy would like to share their views on this great track.

KJS
: No one is any more deserving of success than Sound Sanctuary. On top of being a great bunch of guys, they make damn good music. Broken Signs is their latest offering for release.

It was this song that first brought Sound Sanctuary to my attention. Its unique intro immediately compelled me to listen on and, before I knew it, I had played the whole track repeatedly for a number of times that my fingers and toes combined would not allow me to keep a count of.

With Broken Signs, Sound Sanctuary have succeeded where so many bands before them have failed - in breaking the mould; being different. Don't let this fool you into thinking they're a flash in a pan, though - there is much more to Broken Signs than a sense of uniqueness.

If Richard Ashcroft ever had a secret lovechild with Suzanne Vega, I would expect the resulting spawned musical genius to produce something like this.

The harmonic vocals sound like the figurative theme song to a lazy summer's day, laying flat out on a grassy hill, making pictures out of clouds. And the accompanying music - an entrancing mix of melodic guitars, a laid back drum beat and enigmatic sound effects - is nothing short of brilliant.

With the right marketing, it goes without saying that the sky is the limit for Sound Sanctuary.

The B-Side, "Collector", is nothing to be sniffed at either. It has it's very own ambient attraction - ideal for winding down after a hard day's work.

Broken Signs is on general release from July 16th. If you love good music, go out and buy it. Simple.

: I was introduced to Sound Sanctuary by KJS who, within a few listens to this particular song, was already a fan. After one listen, so was I. You simply can't help but become entranced by the beauty of this tune.

I listened to a few more of Sound Sanctuary's songs and, whilst keeping Sound Sanctuary's individual style, all sounded different, new and interesting. For me, Sound Sanctuary are like a blend of Pink Floyd and Jack Johnson with an element of an ultra chilled-out Squeeze in the distant background.

In my opinion Sound Sanctuary's Broken Signs is a perfect blend of vocals and instruments, resulting in a tune that has you entranced from the very first note and gets better from there.

The blended vocals fit the tune perfectly and the quirky "Flipped Out" introduction and ending to the song really adds that extra something to it, and allows the listener to phase seamlessly from a stressful day, into Sound Sanctuary's sunshine soaked tune and phase back out again with a smile and a feeling of restfulness.

The music video is also clever and different. It has a Red hot Chili Peppers feel to it. It's well worth watching and, much like the song, blends you seamlessly from your day into Sound Sanctuary's world to relax with a beer on a sun soaked evening before delivering you back again, relaxed and de-stressed.

After several repeat listens from Sound Sanctuary's MySpace page, both myself and KJS decided we would like to better know the people behind this song leading to our interview with them here.
Much as you would expect, the band behind the song were great guys and we both feel that they deserve to go far.

With their music, Sound Sanctuary certainly have the talent and the tunes and we will keep passing on the word about them and keep our fingers crossed.

I don't pretend to be eloquent in my wordings and I feel this song is deserving of much better descriptions than I am able to give, but I do know what I like and I like this song and this band.

I really would recommend you follow the Broken signs and allow Sound Sanctuary to take you "into the sunshine" with this song, you will not regret it. Actually do it now, download it from ITunes here.

I challenge you not to be chilled out after hearing this song.
