The Perfects Interview (05/04/07)
Taking a leaf out of Banxy's book, KJS has been checking out the coolest new bands out there. The Perfects stood out by a mile and he's managed to nab an interview with them. Check it out.
With so many new artists out there, it's hard to stand out, but my latest interview subjects do exactly that. It's hard to nail down their sound in words - "electro meets rock with allsorts in between" is probably the best I can do. So why not let them tell us about themselves. Ric Peters from The Perfects did exactly that when I grabbed a few moments of his time for this interview.

KJS :
Hi Ric. So, how did the group come about?

Ric : Me and Tim had worked together before. There was a hiatus because I was personally burnt out on the music business and had some personal issues to deal with. After about 2 1/2 years of not doing anything I got the itch again and suggested to Tim that we do a cover of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf" for fun to see what would come of it. We were both so happy with the end result we started working on some original material and thus the start of The Perfects took root.

KJS : Where does the inspiration come from for both the music and lyrics of your records?

Ric : Lyrically I just pull from everything. Life. It's a story that continues to write itself every day. Musically I cannot speak for Tim and honestly I've never asked him.

KJS : Being described as "Duran Duran meets Nine Inch Nails", as well as being a major compliment, gives a real conveyance of versatility in terms of your musical style. Can you sum that style up?

Ric : Perfect.

KJS : Appropriate! Are you happy with where the band is at the moment and where would you like to be in the long term?

Ric : Absolutely. The fact that the band is even in existence is a triumph unto itself with the back story involved from years of being involved with other bands that never materialised into the type of success we are just now starting to see with The Perfects. As far as long term goals go, to be a career band making a living doing what we love to do - which is making music.

KJS : Of all the people you have worked with, who were you most in awe of and who was the most fun to work with?

Ric : For me I've always enjoyed working with Tim. He never ceases to amaze me with the great ideas he comes up with. It was also a great experience working with Nic Hard. Quite the professional and a very nice guy.

KJS : Who would you most like to work with in the future?

Ric : Well that changes based on my personal mood so I really could not narrow it down to just one person as far as any artists go. As far as producers go, though, I would love to see us working with Flood. He has always been one of my favoyrite producers and that is certainly something I would love to see happen in the future.

Rick, Brent, Vicky, Jeff, Tim

KJS : As far as the band goes, is there a practical joker amongst you?

Ric : Not practical joker per se, but certainly jackass. Me and Tim can both take pride in sharing that duality from time to time. As far as who has worked with us on writing some of the songs though, the ultimate joker is indeed Wayne Crowther.

KJS : What do you think you would be doing if you weren't in the band?

Ric : Dead.

KJS : Nasty! What music do you listen to yourselves?

Ric : Too hard a question to answer! Again based on mood. It varies for me. I could be listening to Nick Drake or T-Rex and then Ministry 5 minutes later. It all depends on where my head is at in any given moment. Tim is a huge Cure fan like myself. We both love bands like Depeche Mode and New Order. Those are certainly staples for us both.

KJS : You've recently started to take to the stage - has anything embarrasing happened to any of you while you were performing?

Ric : I had to bring lyrics on stage because we just wrote a new song and everyone wanted us to play that song, but I could not remember all the words so I brought my lyrics. I let the audience know ahead of time what that was all about. Quite funny at the time but now I know them pretty well.

KJS : You've got a great fan base already - have any of them done anything crazy in your presence?

Ric : Not yet!

KJS : And finally, would you like to tell us about any upcoming projects/events that you have in the pipeline?

Ric : Well, the remixes Tim did for Mindless Self Indulgence were recently released on their EP "Another Mindless Ripoff". Then we have Richard Vission and David Garcia who have remixed our song "Shipwrecked" and that should be seeing the light of day sometime this year. We are very excited about that and of course the plans are in the works for an eventual tour, but we do not have any time line or any idea whom that will be with until the rest of the year starts to unfold, but it is in the works.

KJS : Excellent. Thanks very much The Perfects!
